J. Wiss & Sons Co. entered its 121st consecutive year of doing business in Newark in 1969 with an extensive plant construction and modernization program scheduled for completion this summer.

President Richard R. Wiss cited the company's building program as "evidence of our confidence in the future of Newark and pride in our community.

"Our company has had a history of virtually uninterrupted growth since our founding in 1848," Wiss said. "The facilities and skills to be found in the Newark area have played a major role in our progress."

Wiss is one of the world's largest manufacturers of quality shears, scissors, snips and garden tools.

The new building, adjoining the main plant at 33 Littleton Ave., houses facilities for warehousing and tool and die, heat-treating, drill press and grinding operations. Wiss said the new facilities are required to meet the growing demand for the company's products.

The final structure in the building program is a general office and administration building, started last fall. The formal opening is slated for the fall of 1969.
