Mrs. Wiss Smith dies, founded Cub Scout unit

Services were conducted yesterday in Christ Church in Short Hills for Mrs. Mildred Wiss Smith of 38 Kenilworth Drive.

Mrs. Smith, founder of the nation's first Cub Scout pack, died Sunday in Inglemoor Nursing Home, Livingston. She was 78.

Born in Newark, where she founded Cub Scout Pack 1, Mrs. Smith moved to this township 45 years ago. She was a member of Overlook Hospital's Women's Auxiliary, the Bay Head Yacht Club, Baltusrol Golf Club and the Altar Guild of Christ Church. She was a past president of the Short Hills Garden Club.

Mrs. Smith leaves three sons, Norman, Frederick and Kenneth Wiss, and 11 grandchildren.
