Wiss Razors With Etched Names

The models with names etched onto the blades only came in one configuration. Some of the c1915 models included a leather case. There is no pattern to the names and what you get. And they changed. Names in 1907 are completely different razors in 1915. This section also includes a few that have names and were not found in the catalogs.

The word Aristocrat is stamped on the tang. This model does not appear in either catalog. This one passed through eBay in December 2008. Others passed through in June 2009 and March 2010.

This can be found on page 38 in the 1907 catalog. This was the most expensive razor in the 1907 catalog. The Wiss Best had a plain flat handle in 1912. This item passed through eBay in April 2010.

The Wiss Best variant is not in either of the catalogs. It has fancy antique tangs, which would date this to being a style used prior to 1907. Like the 1907 one, this was most likely the most expensive razor that they sold. This item passed through eBay in February 2010. One without the paint sold on eBay for $37 including shipping in October 2011.

The 400 series appears to be from a Sure Grip series with an alternate blade shape. Or the numbers used with a name etched on the blade. This item passed through eBay in May 2011.

Wiss Sure Comfort Razor Black Handle
The stamping on this Wiss Sure Comfort Razor is not all visible but the black scales are clean, free of chips and cracks and the pins, blade, shank, fluting and tang are also clean and shiny. The fluting is on both the under and upper parts of the shank and is very apparent on both sides and especially deep on the top of the shank. The blade measures 3" by 5/8" and the overall length is 6 5/8". The back of the blade is plain. The shank shows "J. Wiss & Sons, Newark NJ" The razor has been on a shelf for approximately 30 years and the blade will need to be honed and smoothed.
