Workers Begin What Company Calls Wildcat Strike, Factory May Close

Employees of the J. Wiss & Sons Co. plant at 31 Littleton avenue began walking of their jobs at 10 A.M today in what the company called a wildcat strike.

Norman F Wiss Sr. executive vice president and treasurer of the company, said the walkouts threaten to stop production. The plant manufactures shears and scissors.

Wiss said that there is a petition before the National Labor Relations Board by Local 301, Playthings, Jewelry & Novelty Workers Amalgamated for recognition as bargaining agent for the Wiss employees Union officials were not immediately available for comment.

Holds One Contract

He added that the company has refused to recognize the union because it holds a contract with the employees present bargaining agent an independent union of Wiss workers, which does not expire until November 4, 1952.

"The company," Wiss said "has not received any demands of any kind, not has it been informed of any grievances existing between the employees and the management."
