The loss was discovered yesterday although police said the rings apparently were taken Thursday. When an employe opened the locked display window to remove them to the vault as the store was closing he saw the window empty and it was assumed someone else had returned the rings to the vault.
After the vault was opened yesterday, the loss was discovered and was reported to the police.
Neither the glass window nor lock showed any signs of having been tampered with, police said.
