On June 20, 1999, ROBERT C., husband of CORNELIA (nee Wiss) Degerberg, of Gladwyne, PA; also survived by his sons Gunnar and George Degerberg, 2 daughters, Katherine Degerberg Parker and Mary Degerberg Leyden, 2 step-sons, Phillip and Roger Lyford, and one step-daughter, Rebecca Lyford Newman, and 2 grandsons, brother of George Nelson Degerberg. Relatives and friends are invited to Memorial Services in Fri., June 25, 1999 in the Gladwyne Presbyterian Church at 11 A.M. Int. Private. Memorial contributions may be made to the Gladwyne Free Library, Righters Mill Rd., Gladwyne, PA 19035 or to the charity of the donor's choice.

Robert C. Degerberg

Retired teacher, 78

Robert Clayton Degerberg, 78, a retired teacher and former businessman, died of prostate cancer Sunday at his home in Gladwyne.

Mr. Degerberg retired in 1986 from Olney High School in Philadelphia, where he had taught vending machine repair for about 10 years. Before that he had been in the vending-machine business since World War II.

He founded Pamco Vending Machine Co., which later was purchased by Macke Vending Co. Mr. Degerberg then served as vice president of operations for Macke for 15 years.

He was also a free-lance photographer.

He was born in Philadelphia, and graduated from Episcopal Academy and attended the University of Pennsylvania. During World War II, he served as a naval aviator and taught navigation at the Shawnee (Okla.) Naval Air Station.

Mr. Degerberg was also a former trustee of the Gladwyne Free Library and a member of Mensa and the Merion Cricket Club. He enjoyed ham radio, sailing, reading, and using the Internet.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Cornelia Wiss Degerberg; children Gunnar, George, Katherine D. Parker and Mary D. Leyden; stepchildren Philip Lyford, Roger Lyford and Rebecca L. Newman; a brother; and two grandsons.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Gladwyne Presbyterian Church, 1321 Beaumont Dr., Gladwyne. Burial is private.
