Lt. Waldron Ward Killed in Pacific

Notification has been received from the Navy Department of the death in action in the Pacific of Lt. (j.g.) Waldron M. Ward Jr., USNR. Lt. Ward is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Ward of 74 Whittredge road, Summit. He is the husband of Mrs. Ruth Wiss Ward, formerly of South Orange. They made their home before his enlistment at 353 Hillside avenue, Livingston.

The senior Ward is a partner in Pitney, Hardin & Ward, law firm in Newark, and executive vice president of the Howard Savings Institution.

Lt. Ward, 30, was one of three brothers in the armed forces. The others are Cpl. John S. Ward, with the Army in France, and Ensign Robert C. Ward, USNR, at sea.

Lt. Ward at the time of his death was commanding officer of an LCI. He was commissioned in May, 1943, was called to active service in July and underwent an indoctrination course at Fort Schuyler, N.Y. He underwent additional amphibious training in Maryland and was sent to the West Coast for assignment.

He was made an executive officer in June of this year and left the country. Later he was promoted to commanding officer.

Lt. Ward was graduated from Phillips Andover Academy and from Princeton class of 1936. He was a member of Colonial Club at Princeton. He was an ardent fresh-water fisherman and after graduation took a position with Derrydale Press, sports publication house.

Later he joined the staff of Time Magazine. At the time of his enlistment he was with the Thomas Lipton Tea Co. at Hoboken.

Lt. Ward also leaves a sister Miss Aileen Ward of Cambridge, Mass. and a daughter Pamela, 3. Memorial services are being arranged.
