The Wiss Store Advertisements in The Newark Sunday Call
The Newark Sunday Call is online in the Google News Archive collection: 1872-1881 and after they added Newark to their name 1881-1940s. The first found ads for the Wiss Store were in 1880. This was just a few months after Jacob Wiss died in June 1880. Frederick C.J. Wiss was now fully in control of the company. They initially only purchased a series of ads around the Christmas holidays. A few years later they advertised more regularly. Below are the earliest ads from the News Archive.
At this time the store was only selling cutlery related items. The paper was 10 columns, and the ads were two columns. The "& Sons" first appears on January 2, 1881.

The ad size grew this year. It is now one column on an eight column page. This growth in ad size coincides with the moving of work to other locations. The shears image has been removed, to emphasize that here is more of a store with a wide selection.

There is a gap in issues that have been digitized.
They are now advertising every week. They started sometime in the gap. See the first week they added the image it was printed upside-down. In May 1885 the "all work being done on the premises" returns for a few months. Either this is referring to all repair work, or someone reused old ad text without paying attention. These are one column in a nine column newspaper.
