J. Wiss & Sons Co. maintained its leadership in the manufacturing of hand-cutting tools throughout the past year, according to Richard R. Wiss, president of the 122-year-old Newark company.

Wiss produces three main product lines Shears and scissors, metal cutting snips and garden shears.

"With the completion of our extensive expansion and improvement program scheduled for early 1970, we will move into the new decade with the most modern manufacturing facilities designed to keep pace with the demands forecast for the coming decade, and maintain the quality standards that have established Wiss as the world's largest manufacturer of quality shears and scissors," Wiss said.

"We expressed our faith in Newark when we first made this long-range modernization commitment back in 1963," Wiss added. "Today, as we move into our 123rd year, we again reaffirm our confidence in the future of Newark and its vitality as a manufacturing and transportation center, to serve our national and world-wide markets."

The Wiss expansion program, involving three new buildings and the existing main plant, will be completed with the opening of the new office administration building in the first part of the year. The offices presently are located in the main plant, and this space will be utilized to further expand current warehouse and shipping facilities.

In conjunction with the building program, Wiss is waging a war against air and water pollution. A hydraulic system filters and recirculates coolants and detergents used in the automatic grinding rather than disposing of them as waste or waste by products.

A modern incinerator was also installed that, the company said, more than meets the air pollution of New Jersey standards.
