Jacob Wiss Lot in Fairmount Cemetery
The first Wiss lot was purchased by Jacob Wiss on April 24, 1860. Cost unknown. It is Section F, Lot No. 25. It is near the original entrance on South Orange Ave. There are eight people buried here, though the official records only show seven. Ferdinand and Jacob Wiss died a day apart from diphtheria, and were buried together, presumably in an adult-sized coffin.
Frederick C.J. Wiss's infant son is here, but after he bought a private room in the Mausoleum, members of his family were interred there.
Louis Wiss and members of his family are in another outdoor lot
Entire lot.
Stone locations do not match with the diagram that is the last image on this page.
In the background is Freddie. On the diagram that is not numbered, but 3 wasn't used for the others.
Across the front here is: J.W. – M.W. – A.M.K. – small obelisk [Frederick C Wiss]
The small limestone obelisk for Frederick C Wiss has been unreadable for years. Since these pictures were taken, I mentioned this obelisk being off-center to management. It has since been straightened.
Only two sides of the big obelisk have inscriptions:

Card #1
- The boys were in a temporary grave for 5-1/2 years, until this lot was purchased 5-1/2 years after they died.
- Frederick C Wiss (Freddie) was Frederick C.J. Wiss's son. He is not noted on the big obelisk. The last date on the obelisk is 1880, and he died in 1888. Instead he got a small obelisk, which has been unreadable for decades. In the diagram that is located on top of Anna Marie Kaiser, and the stone labeled Freddie is correctly above 3 in the diagram.
- Both Ferdinand and Jacob Wiss are buried in Grave 4. Ferdinand died the day before Jacob. The two were put in an adult-sized coffin.
- The lot was endowed with $1500, as follows:
- $100 by "Heirs of Jacob Wiss" on 11/28/1888
- $400 by Frederick J. Wiss on 10/4/1923
- $1000 by Norman F. Wiss on 9/27/1951

Diagram
- Note that this diagram does not agree with the stone locations in the second picture above.
- There are graves available for Jacob Wiss family members.
- Where the big obelisk is located is 3'-6" and Mon. for Monument. That is the width at the base. The big one would not have been erected until Jacob, the purchaser, died in 1880.
- The unmarked grave in the lower right is assumed to be 3.
