1941 DeSoto Custom Series S8C Convertible Club Coupe

Norm Jr's first car was not a convertible, but his second one was. Only 2937 of this model car were manufactured. A lovely restored one had been for sale. The catalog page for this model from the Sketch Book of the 1941 DeSoto. The car cost $1195.
In the driveway at 17 Oaklawn Rd, Short Hills. Norm Jr. is at the wheel. The running lights were added by Norm Jr. early on.

The car is parked in front of the side lot of his mother's Avon-by-the-Sea house at 26 Lincoln Ave. The two houses pictured are to the east, with the ocean in the distance. The spotlight alongside the driver's window has now been added. Norm Jr. must have had a thing for these spotlights. And a front tire has lost its white wall.

Picture is dated Summer 1943. It is labeled Norman [Sr], as apparently he was driving the car this day with Mildred. Norm Jr. was probably in training at Fort Monmouth, and his father took the DeSoto as his car.

The DeSoto in Summer 1943 alongside 724 East Ave, Bay Head. Picture taken on the same trip to the shore as above. This may have been the first year that Norman and Mildred rented this house. Or they were checking the house out, to rent the next year. The large white house at the right was the Bristol family's house.
