Golden weddings are everyday affairs, but Mrs. Frederick C.J. Wiss of East Orange is the only person we know to have a golden friendship anniversary. Mrs. Wiss's son Norman of Short Hills invited her to luncheon Tuesday at Zigler's in East Orange near her present home in South Munn avenue. She went all unsuspecting and was ushered into a private room filled with women friends of 50 years standing. Luncheon was served at a chrysanthemum decked table and was gay with reminiscences of Newark half a century ago.

Mrs. Wiss is the former Miss Charlotte Lang, whose birthplace and girlhood home was in West Market street. After her marriage to the late Mr. Wiss they lived first in Nelson place and later for 35 years in Fairmount avenue. Mrs. Wiss moved to East Orange after her husband's death.

Mrs. John C. Graft of East Orange was chief organizer of the "Auld Lang Syne party," which was even more of a surprise as it was not the honor guest's birthday. Other old friends present were Mrs. Julia Schwartz, Mrs. Amy Miller, Mrs. Fred Reynolds, Mrs. George W. Allsopp, Mrs. Minnie Trelease and Mrs. Josephine Morris of Newark; Mrs. Louis Bippart, Mrs. August Goertz and Mrs. Myra Heywood of East Orange, and Mrs. Tom Minor of New York. The only one of the group unable to attend was Mrs. Lily Steffens of Newark, who was ill.
