Duke Knows Way To Ice-Box

Newark Sunday Call, July 1, 1934

Duke, a shepherd dog, here shown with one of its owners, Norman Wiss Jr. of Oaklawn road, Short Hills, has a penchant for ice-boxes. Whenever he is hungry or thirsty, he tugs at the trousers or skirt of a member of the household of Norman F. Wiss and pulls the "victim" to the ice-box. The dog, a favorite of the youngsters in the neighborhood of the Wiss Home, is 2 years old and has been a member of the Wiss family since he was 2 weeks old. His guardians are Norman Jr., 14; Kenneth, 11, and Frederick 9, and when he stands on his hind legs he is taller than any of them. Incidentally, last week he won first prize for being the largest dog in the first show sponsored by the Short Hills School, which inaugurated the playground season of that institution.
